Peter Pan Cocktail

Peter Pan Cocktail

Peter Pan Cocktail

Peter Pan Cocktail – Sandy Duncan… really?  Today’s drink is in commemoration of Sandy Duncan’s last performance playing Peter Pan on Broadway almost 30 years ago… is that really the best they could come up with for today?  Show of hands, who here even remembers Sandy Duncan? Nothing against the little lady but c’mon, I think we can do better than that!  Today in 1865 the House of Representatives passed a constitutional amendment to abolish slavery, not a bad thing to commemorate if you ask me. How about Jackie Robinson? It’s his birthday today… hell, why not Justin Timberlake?  It’s Justin’s b-day today (turns 30) and we wouldn’t even need to change the name of the drink… he’s kind of a Peter Pan if you ask me… (insert your own meaning)

Peter Pan Cocktail

  • ¾ oz gin
  • ¾ oz dry vermouth
  • ¾ oz orange juice
  • 2 dashes bitters

Drink Tip: If you change what your’re drinking to today, might as well change the drink also… this one tastes like shampoo…

Irish Bloody Mary

Irish Bloody Mary

Irish Bloody Mary

Irish Bloody Mary – Today marks the anniversary of Bloody Sunday (you may be more familiar with the U2 song than the event itself) when British soldiers fired on and killed 26 unarmed civilian protesters in Northern Ireland. Well, if you want a drink that looks like a bloody mess than this is it!  Not a very appetizing looking drink… and the taste? Eh… it’s drinkable but like oil and water, I don’t think these two ingredients are meant to mix.

Irish Bloody Mary

  • 1½ oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
  • 6 os Bloody Mary mix
  • 1 pickle spear
  • celery salt (give the glass a rim job)

Drink Tip: Here’s a better idea, make yourself two drinks – an Irish coffee and a Bloody Mary… two great drinks just don’t mix ’em!

California Gold Rush

California Gold Rush

California Gold Rush

California Gold Rush – Check out the pick above, that’s right, doing the double-pour! Gettin’ it done with a bottle in each hand… Drink was scheduled in the book for the 24th but today is the 29th, used Sprite instead of 7-Up and used Hot Damn instead of Goldschläger… but it all tastes the same so who really cares…?

California Gold Rush:

  • 12 oz 7-Up
  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1½ oz cinnamon Schnapps

DJ Shooter

DJ Shooter

DJ Shooter

DJ Shooter – In the book this drink was scheduled for a few days ago… being the rebel that I am, I keep my own schedule – I’m crazy like that! This drink, originally scheduled for the 25th was to commemorate some scandal involving radio DJs taking bribes to play certain albums… well, if we’re to commemorate a day in history, today is the 28th so that doesn’t make sense so let’s see… January 28th, 1985 they recorded “We Are the World” and one year later on January 28th, 1986 the space shuttle Challenger exploded just after take-off.. there’s your two choices – raise your glass and drink to which ever one you think was the greater tragedy…

Make a DJ Shooter:

  • 3 oz peach Schnapps
  • 1½ oz gin
  • 1½ oz coconut rum
  • 1½ oz vodka
  • 1/3 oz pineapple juice
  • 1/3 oz orange juice
  • 1/3 oz cranberry juice

Drink Tip: Go easy on this one, there’s enough alcohol in this drink to blow your O-ring!

TV Cocktail

TV Cocktail

TV Cocktail

TV Cocktail – Vodka and iced tea, that’s it… seems like a lazy kind of cocktail to me.  Commercials are usually around five minutes long so I think you’ve got enough time to make something a better than just iced tea with a little bit of vodka in it.  I’m a big fan of TV… love it, watch it all the time and I think it deserves something more interesting, something with more creativity and thought put into it than just iced tea with vodka!  I mean what kind of person came up with this drink?  Must have been someone who watches reality TV… I hate those bastards!  Stupid shows with wanna-be celebrities with their fake problems and made up drama… no creativity at all just like this drink!  C’mon – now a Long Island Iced Tea… five different kinds of alcohol and not a drop of actual iced tea in it… now there’s some creativity for ya, that’s a drink!

How to make the TV Cocktail:

  • turn off the reality TV
  • turn on the gas and stick your head in the oven

Drink Tip: If you watch reality TV just follow the instruction above… if not, make something different.

Gin and Tonic

Gin and Tonic

Gin and Tonic

Gin and Tonic – This is an historic moment for me… this is the first time I’ve ever had a gin and tonic!  Seems like a common enough drink but like riding a horse or eating potato salad, it’s something I’ve never done… until right….now!  There, I’ve done it… eh, not too bad.. it’s got to be better than cold potatoes mixed with mayonnaise… *gag*

How to make a Gin and Tonic:

  • couple ounces of gin
  • few ounces of tonic water
  • pour it all over ice and add a slice of lime or lemon

Drink Tip: Drink heavily to avoid catching malaria… that’s right – British soldiers in India drank tonic water to help prevent malaria but since tonic water tasted so bad they started mixing it with gin to improve the taste… most drinks you mix to kill the taste of the alcohol…seems kinda ass backwards but they’re British, they can’t even drive on the right side of the road!

Irish Kiss

Irish Kiss

Irish Kiss

Irish Kiss – Ah me lassie, today be National Irish Coffee Day!  We’re going to get fancy on ya and make that Irish coffee into an Irish Kiss… a great, big, giant kiss!

How to get an Irish Kiss:

  • 1 pot  o’ coffee
  • 1 bottle o’ Bailey’s Irish Cream
  • 1 bottle o’ Kahlua coffee liqueur
  • 1 giant can o’ whip cream
  • a sprinklin’ o’ nutmeg

Chug the whole thing and let the kissin’ begin!

Drink Tip: If you don’t want to drink until you black out, adjust the recipe above by only using ¾ of an oz of liqueur instead of a whole bottle…

Jalapeño Margarita

Jalapeño Margarita

Jalapeño Margarita

Jalapeño Margarita – Ate at a Mexican restaurant called the Red Iguana and what could be more Mexican than a margarita with jalapeños in it!  Lazy day, nothing witty to say so I’m just gonna shut-up and drink… you should do the same.

Jalapeño Margarita:

  • Cazadores tequila
  • blanco (white) tequila
  • Presidente Brandy
  • Cointreau – triple sec liqueur
  • simple syrup
  • lime juice
  • muddled jalapeño

Drink Tip: The drink may be cold but jalapeños can be hot, careful what you bite into!

Blood & Sand

Blood & Sand

Blood & Sand

Blood & Sand – Had lunch at a restaurant today called Squatters… I explained to the bartender my little ‘different drink every day‘ project I’ve got going on and asked if he could get creative and mix me up something something special… something unique to the Park City area, so he came up with a Blood & Sand.  “A Blood & Sand isn’t unique” you say… well the drink itself may not be unique but how he made it is… he used High West Whiskey that is made at a distillery right in Park City which is one of only two distilleries in the entire state in Utah! (From what I hear, Mormons aren’t big on the whole drinking thing….)

Blood & Sand (Utah style):

  • High West Whiskey
  • orange juice
  • grenadine

Drink Tip: Drink at your own risk! Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200, Go strait to the telestial kingdom and spend the next 1000 years in spirit prison!

Hot Apple Pie

Hot Apple Pie

Hot Apple Pie

Hot Apple Pie – What could be better on a cold winter night than some Hot Apple Pie?  Especially if that Hot Apple Pie was a hot drink….even better, a hot drink with rum in it – now that’s what I’m talking about!

I picked up this hot little number at a restaurant in Park City, UT called The Eating Establishment.  I have to give credit to Amy for the photo of me… she had the idea that it would look cool to light the glass so she asked the restaurant hostess for a flashlight.  So there I am in the middle of a crowded restaurant, posing while holding a drink in one hand and a flashlight in the other as Amy is snapping photos… I look a little evil but like the effect!

Hot Apple Pie:

  • Capitan Morgan Rum
  • hot cider
  • cinnamon stick

Drink Tip: Goes great with some real apple pie… and make it à la mode!
