Mimosa

Mimosa made from orange juice and champagne

Mimosa

Mimosa – It’s a calm and quite beautiful morning as I step outside to breath in the fresh air and listed to the playful chirp of birds in the trees. Through the stillness of the morning I hear a faint popping noise and then another and another… each pop followed by an excited squeal and laugh… Yes, it’s the weekend (actually it’s Monday but just go with me here…), it’s time for brunch and right now soccer moms, middle-age divorcées, and blue haired widows all across America are popping bottles of champagne and sparkling wine as they mix up their favorite alcoholic breakfast drink – the Mimosa. Now for obvious reasons I don’t fall into the aforementioned categories (besides, I’m more of a Bloody-Mary man myself) but any reason to drink in the morning is OK with me!

Mimosa:

  • champagne
  • orange juice

Drink Tip: Most common mix is half champagne and half orange juice but it doesn’t really matter, mix to your own taste and start the day off with the bubbles flowing!

Mad Cow

Mad Cow shot drink recipe

Mad Cow

Mad Cow – Not sure if mad cow disease is contagious but a couple of these shots and you’ll have enough alcohol in you to fight off any infection!  Had a great night catching up with some friends who joined me for today’s drink… plus a few extra…

Mad Cow:

  • 1 part coffee Liqueur
  • 1 part cream
  • 1 part Bacardi 151

Gun Barrel

Gun Barrel mix drink cocktail recipe and review

Gun Barrel

Gun Barrel – Without this day in history we wouldn’t have Western movies, Clint Eastwood, duels at high noon or Russian Roulette… 175 years ago today Sam Colt introduced the revolver to the gun loving world.

How to stare down your own Gun Barrel:

  • 1½ oz vodka
  • ½ oz Triple Sec
  • splash of cranberry juice

Drink Tip: If you only add a little bit of cranberry juice the drink comes out pink… make sure you add enough cranberry juice so that the drink turns red, red like blood (insert evil laugh here)

Alamo Cocktail

V mix drink cocktail recipe with whiskey, tequila, 151 rum and hot sauce.

Alamo Cocktail

Alamo Cocktail Those guys at the Alamo got off easy compared to what I’m doing right now… sure there were only 189 of them against 2,000 Mexicans and they all got slaughtered but hey, at least they were out in the fresh air and only had to die one death!  I’m sitting in the house experiencing an excruciating death with every sip of this drink that I take!  First there’s the burn in the back of the throat that makes me cough like a two-pack a day smoker… then, like a cat clawing a seat cushion, it travels down the esophagus into my stomach creating a reenactment of the Hindenburg disaster (Oh, the humanity!) before traveling back up my chest pushing my heart aside like a Black-Friday Walmart Christmas shopper causing me to leap to my feet and cry out like Chewbacca in heat…. I then pace back in forth across the room giving my head time to clear and the burning in my ears to subside before I sit back down and take another sip… you should try it…

Alamo Cocktail:

  • 1½ oz bourbon whiskey
  • 1½ oz tequila
  • 1½ oz 151 proof rum
  • ½ oz hot sauce
  • a dash of black pepper

Drink Tip: Make sure your insurance premiums are paid and consult your doctor before drinking…

I think this video perfectly shows what each sip is like:

Hockey Puck

Hockey Puck mix drink cocktail recipe

Hockey Puck

Hockey Puck – Like a slapshot to the mouth!  Today marks the the DAY BEFORE the 31st anniversary of the Miracle On Ice… USA’s defeat of the Soviet Union in the 1980 Winter Olympics… yes, you read that right… I’m commemorating it a day early! Why?  One reason could be that I’m fast, efficient and like to avoid procrastinating by getting things done early… or…  I made the drink, took the pictures and then as I’m posting this I realized I got the date wrong and it’s not until tomorrow and just don’t feel like making another drink… one of those two excuses is correct, I’ll let yo pick…

Hockey Puck:

  • 1½ oz Jägermeister
  • 1½ oz tequila
  • 3 oz cola

Drink Tip: First get the day right – Second, make sure the soda you use isn’t flat… not as good…

Bob Cocktail

Bob Cocktail mix drink recipe

Bob Cocktail

Bob Cocktail – Found this drink called a Bob Cocktail although to do justice to the person I’m commemorating today I’ll probably have to chase this drink with a least a 6-pack of beer (or a case) to do it up right.  A good friend, Bob Young, left this world way too soon along with 99 other people on this day back in 2003 in The Station nightclub fire.  Bob, this one’s for you… we had some great times, think of you often, and you’ll always be missed…

Bob Cocktail:

  • 1 oz cherry brandy
  • 1 oz amaretto
  • 1 oz banana liqueur
  • 3/4 oz orange juice

Drink Tip: Best to drink while listening to some Tupac…

Prohibition Cocktail

Mix drink recipe and review for a Prohibition Cocktail with gin and brandy.

Prohibition Cocktail

Prohibition Cocktail – On this date back in 1881 Kansas went dry… the first state to initiate prohibition.  The rest of the country followed suite in 1920… fortunately they came to their senses in 1933 but unfortunately the only thing prohibition really did was create organized crime.  Maybe someday they’ll do the same for some other prohibited substances…

How to rebel with a Prohibition Cocktail:

  • 2 oz gin
  • 2 oz white wine
  • 1/2 tsp apricot brandy
  • 1 tsp orange juice
  • 1 lemon twist (I used lemon juice)

Drink Tip: Get a clothespin for your nose, this is some potent s#*!
