Casablanca

Casablanca – Of all the gin joints, in all the website, in all the world wide web, you surf into mine… Except I think Rick would slap Sascha (the bartender) if he served him this drink… there’s no gin in it!  This drink is all rum.. now don’t get me wrong,  I love rum, rum is probably my favorite alcohol… but what makes this drink a Casablanca?   I think this is another drink that I’ll have to re-invent sometime… but until then, here’s lookin’ at you kid…

Casablanca recipe (for now):

• 2 oz white rum
• 1/2 oz coconut rum
• 4 oz pineapple juice
• 1 oz coconut cream
• 1/2 oz grenadine

Drink Tip: Man this drink up a bit… maybe swap the recipe amounts for the pineapple juice and coconut rum… (1/2 oz pineapple and 4 oz of rum:)

Green Monster

Green Monster – Opening day for baseball so what better than a drink to commemorate the Green Monster at Fenway Park, home of the best team evah’ … the Boston Red Sox.  But the Sox are on the road today and don’t have their home opener for about a week or so…

Green Monster:

• ice
• 4 oz vodka
• 1 pickled pepper

Drink Tip: Lot’s of vodka but not much mixing going on with this drink… so why not chase it with a Sam Adams and a bowl of chowdah’

Skinny Dipper

Skinny Dipper: I like it!… the drink that is… and hey, I don’t mind skinny dipping but I’m not sure how enjoyable me skinny dipping would be for everyone else!?  Don’t mean to put that image in your head but is there really nothing better than a cool swim on a warm night sans the trunks?

Skinny Dipper:

• 2 oz Midori (melon liqueur)
• 6 oz cranberry juice

Drink Tip: Mix it up in a shaker with ice… the drink that is, not you! “…you don’t understand. There was shrinkage.”

Nuclear Iced Tea

Nuclear Iced Tea – This drink was scheduled for today in the book to commemorate Three Mile Island… almost seems too soon considering recent (and ongoing) event in Japan… but it’s such a tasty drink I couldn’t pass it up….

Nuclear Iced Tea:

• 1/2 oz vodka
• 1/2 oz gin
• 1/2 oz rum
• 1/2 oz triple sec
• 1/2 oz melon liqueur
• sour mix
• lemon lime soda (7-Up/Sprite)

Drink Tip: Pretty tasty and may look like a kid’s drink but go easy on this on or you may have a meltdown!

Shotgun - "Songs are really just interesting things to do with the air." ~ Tom Waits

Shotgun – A blend of three whiskeys seemed like the only appropriate drink to commemorate Tom Waits being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.  A man whose voice has been described as sounding “like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car.”  Well, here’s a drink to help you on your way to sounding like Tom Waits…

Shotgun:

• 1 part Jack Daniel’s
• 1 part Jim Bean
• 1 oz Wild Turkey

Drink Tip: Neat or on ice, whatever you can handle…

Down Under

Down Under – I’m assuming that the name of this drink has something to do with Australia or New Zealand but I’m not quite sure what…?  It’s not a very good drink either… strong, yes but good tasting, no.  I’m sure there must be a better mixed drink we could make and name it Down Under – any suggestions?

Down Under (recipe for now)

• 1/2 oz vodka
• 1/4 oz rum
• 1/4 oz tequila
• 1/4 oz triple sec
• 1/4 oz blue curacao
• 1 1/2 oz soda water

Drink Tip: Don’t  really have a tip for this drink  just an observation I made while Photoshopping the photo for this bog post… Paul Hogan has a really long neck!

Black Bird Cider

Black Bird (Raven) Cider –

Once upon a midnight quest, while I pondered what drink to test,
Over many a quaint and curious story of drunken lore,
While I poured, nearly spilling, to the top I kept filling,
As I added ice gently chilling, chilling the drink some more.
`’Tis the drink of the day,’ I muttered, `filling the drink some more –
Every day, like a wonderful chore.’

Black Bird Cider:

• 1 shot blackberry Schnapps
• 1 pint cider

Drink Tip: I like it, I’m thinking from now on we add a shot into every fruit beverage we drink, no matter where and when… but I think I’ll skip the plagiaristic poetry next time…

Smarty - Listen to this guy, he's wicked smaht!

Smarty – We got ourselves another sweet drink here with lot’s ‘o flava… amaretto, peach, blackberry (I used black raspberry cuz that’s what I had) and sour mix.  Not bad, give it a try…

Smarty:

• 1 oz amaretto
• 1 oz peach liqueur
• 1 oz blackberry brandy
• ½ oz sour mix

Drink Tip: Make sure you give it the ‘ol shaker and ice treatment and strain into a glass… or strain right into your mouth…

Red Alert - Needs more kick, a drink with this name should at least be flammable IMO

Red Alert – Not a bad drink, sweet like candy if that’s the sort of thing you like (or maybe I added too much sweet & sour mix?) but other than the drink being red in color the name doesn’t fit with what I’d consider something worthy of the “red alert” title… such an alarming name should be stronger, be flammable…

Create your own Red Alert

• 1½ oz tequila
• 1 oz banana liqueur
• 1 oz sloe gin
• sour mix… as much or little as you like

Drink Tip: Make it a double and go easy on the mix to make it less sweet.
