Gladiator

Gladiator cocktail drink recipe

Gladiator Drink Recipe

Gladiator – Today we raise our glass in tribute to the accomplishments of Romulus and Remus... all you Trekkies out there keep you panties on, I’m not talking about fictional alien planets… I’m talking about the twin brothers who, according to legend on this date back in 753 B.C., founded the city of Rome!   And why is that so important you ask?  Is it because of the Roman influence on modern culture in the areas of architecture, literature, government, astrology, education, mathematics, philosophy, art and science?  Nah, anybody could’ve done that… it’s because without Rome we’d never have gladiator movies!  Have you seen that TV show Spartacus: Blood and Sand?  Non-stop violence and soft porn… now that’s quality entertainment worth recognizing!

Gladiator drink recipe:

  • 1/2 oz amaretto liqueur
  • 1/2 oz Southern Comfort
  • 2 oz orange juice
  • 2 oz 7-UP/Sprite

Drink Tip: Invite your friends over, mix up a gallon or two of this and turn your living room into an arena.. but make sure to thrown down some sand and sawdust, it helps keep the blood from staining the carpet…

Earthquake

Earthquake drink recipe

Earthquake

Earthquake – OK, so today’s drink has to do with it being the anniversary of the great earthquake of 1906 in San Francisco.  I made the drink, took the photos and as I’m sitting here sipping my drink and writing this blog post I realized that I got my dates wrong, I thought today was the 18th but just realized it’s only the 17th… the 1906 earthquake anniversary isn’t until tomorrow…. sooooo, I’d like to dedicate this drink to earthquake preparedness! What better way to be prepared for something than to be a day early!?

Earthquake drink recipe:

  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1 oz amaretto
  • 1 oz Southern Comfort
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • orange juice
  • pineapple juice

Drink Tip: In light of recent events, I’m thinking I may want to take my drink out of Southern California…

7 Deadly Sins

7 Deadly Sins drink recipe

7 Deadly Sins

7 Deadly Sins – Oh yeah, I like this… the drink ain’t bad either!  There are six ingredients in this… they say the seventh sin is drinking it but I have to disagree, I say it would be a sin to waste! This is a pretty good shot, got a real kick but the Baily’s and Kahlua makes it go down smooth…

How to commit 7 Deadly Sins:

  • 1/3 oz grenadine
  • 1/3 oz Kahlua
  • 1/3 oz Blue Curacao
  • 1/3 oz Sambuca (I used Ouzo… same diff)
  • 1/3 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
  • 1/3 oz Southern Comfort

Drink Tip: They say you’re supposed to use a spoon and layer the shot but as you can see from the photo, I didn’t bother… is laziness one of the 7 deadly sins?

Special Delivery

Special Delivery mixed drink cocktail recipe and review

Hey baby, I got a Special Delivery for ya 😉

Special Delivery – According to the book, on this date back in the 1800’s congress decided that it was illegal to send any kind of pornographic material in the mail.  They later eased up a bit and decided it was OK if the material had some literary value ~ whatever that means? The Supreme Court addressed the issue again in the 1970’s and when Justice Stewart was asked how to determine what’s legal and what’s not, he replied “I know it when I see it.” Again, seems a little vague and open to interpretation.

Taken directly from the post office website:
13.5.4 Lewd or Filthy Matter
Obscene, lewd, lascivious, or filthy publications or writings, or mail containing information on where, how, or from whom such matter may be obtained, and matter that is otherwise mailable but that has on its wrapper or envelope any indecent, lewd, lascivious, or obscene writing or printing, and any mail containing any filthy, vile, or indecent thing is nonmailable (18 USC 1461, 1463).

From the little bit of research I did, this applies not only to the post office but to the distribution of naughty material in any form… mail, e-mail, web, or just handing something to another person… so that probably means that 98% of the websites on the internet are technically illegal and when it comes to email and cell phone cameras… we’re all criminals!

So anyway… This has nothing to do with me, I’m just bringing the drinks, whatever happens after that, as long as we don’t distribute the photos, we’re good…

Special Delivery:

  • ½ oz Southern Comfort
  • ½ oz peach Schnapps
  • 2½ oz sour mix
  • 2½ oz lemon-lime soda

Drink Tip: Personal preference but I like to go easy on the sour mix and use a little less.

Winter Break

Winter Break

Winter Break

Winter Break – “Whooah, we’re halfway there…”  Today is the officail hafway point for winter… but I don’t see what the big deal is?  The weather today here in Southern California was no different than it was back in July… warm and sunny… (just had to throw that out there for all my friends and family back in Boston experiencing the worst winter they’ve ever had!)

How to have a Winter Break:

  • 1/3 oz Southern Comfort
  • 1/3 oz peach Schnapps
  • 1/3 oz banana liqueur

Drink Tip: If you hate the cold and snow of winter, mix yourself up one of these and then move your ass to someplace warm, jackass!

Red Hot Lover

Red Hot Lover

Red Hot Lover

Red Hot Loverred hot is an understatement, I got enough alcohol here to fuel a rocket!  Here’s the issue with all the booze – who wants just one red hot lover when you can have two!  There’s a recipe for a Red Hot Lover in “the book” but I came across another recipe online that was completely different… so now it’s decision time… what to do… who what to choose?  Well, I decided to take a chance, introduce the two drinks to each other and see if I could arrange a little ménage à cocktail…

I bought all the ingredients for both versions of the drink, mixed ’em both up and had a little taste test with a few people who happened to be hanging around the house.

Red Hot Lover #1 Red Hot Lover #2
  • 2 shots vodka
  • 2 shots peach Schnapps
  • 1 splash of grenadine
  • 3 oz strawberry margarita mix
  • 3 oz orange juice
  • 1 oz. Triple Sec
  • 1/2 oz. Southern Comfort
  • 1/2 oz. bourbon whiskey
  • 1/2 oz. grenadine
  • Splash of pineapple juice
  • Fill with cranberry juice

I poured the drinks into separate glasses and sent everyone off with one in each hand for a little alone time, give them a try and then report back which one they thought was the better Red Hot Lover… after just a couple minutes (I was done in less then 30 seconds) the results were in and with a vote of 2-1, Red Hot Lover #1 became the choice drink of the night!

Drink Tip: Just accept it for what it is and and don’t try to change her… er, I mean it… After trying both drinks myself (and voting for #1) I started feeling a little adventurous, thought I could make them better, that I could take the best traits from each, mix them together to make the perfect Red Hot Lover for myself!  Well, that didn’t go as planned…  I won’t go into all the graphic details but let’s just say strawberry mix can make a sticky mess…
